DataRobot faced a challenge in making its AI platform accessible to first-time users, especially those with limited data science experience. The goal was to simplify the onboarding process, provide clear feedback channels, and optimize the sales funnel to improve user adoption and reduce acquisition costs. Balancing user education and conversion, while making advanced features easy to understand, was critical to driving platform growth.

I led the design of an intuitive onboarding experience that demystified AI concepts, integrated seamless feedback mechanisms, and streamlined trial marketing strategies. Through iterative design, collaboration, and innovative trial implementation, we reduced the learning curve, attracted cost-effective user acquisition, and improved conversion rates, making DataRobot's AI tools more accessible and effective.

I joined DataRobot in 2016 as the second designer and grew to lead a global team, guiding nearly ten major projects. Key achievements included building a comprehensive design system, spearheading the Customer Experience initiative, and developing AI apps. One notable project was our work on "Predicting COVID-19 on the U.S. County Level." A standout accomplishment was designing an intuitive onboarding experience for new users, ensuring easy access to DataRobot’s AI tools. Reflecting on my time at DataRobot, it's clear that the journey was about more than just design. It was about being at the forefront of AI innovation.

One of my key projects at DataRobot was developing an intuitive onboarding experience for first-time users. Our aim was to make AI accessible, even for those without a data science background, by simplifying complex concepts and guiding users through an engaging introduction. We implemented free trials to highlight the platform’s value, optimizing the experience with user feedback and funnel improvements to drive conversion and lower acquisition costs.

Most important in this entire effort is the ability to track the detailed progression of the user through the Welcome Experience. We want events to be fired for each step, both entering and existing, including intreraction with tooltips. Understand all aspects of a user’s experience in the app including clicks, scrolling, navigation and screen recording. Screen recording and dashboard showcasing daily stats including requests, sign-ups, projects and calls.
